Beauty that endures
Family-owned in New Zealand, Abodo creates beautiful, high-performance timbers that are responsibly grown, thermally modified, and crafted to endure for generations.
Chapter 1: Origins
Timber crafted for tomorrow

Abodo was established in 2001 as a New Zealand-owned business with the ambition to offer beautiful, responsibly sourced wood that does more than just look good—it must last. The company’s philosophy emphasizes “lifetime beauty” and “with tomorrow in mind,” reflecting a commitment to sustainable forestry and ethical manufacturing.

Harvesting is done from Radiata plantations, rapidly renewable and managed to FSC standards; logs are sawn, thermally modified, and precision crafted close to source to reduce transport emissions and improve efficiency.

Where legacy meets innovation
Chapter 2: Performance
Engineered for real world demands

Abodo Vulcan timbers undergo thermal modification in high-temperature, steam-controlled kilns (over ~190-230°C) to reduce moisture uptake, increase dimensional stability, and minimise resin leaching. This means boards stay straighter, warp less, and perform better in exterior cladding, decking, screening, and other exposed applications.

Independent testing and real-life installations show that Abodo’s products have excellent weatherability, sustained durability, and Class 1 durability (against decay) in many environments.

Strength you can trust
Chapter 3: Design
Grain with intention

Abodo’s design expression revolves around its signature Vulcan vertical grain, brushed or bandsawn finishes, and choice of stain or natural tones, allowing architects to work with the natural character of wood rather than masking it.

Profiles across cladding, panelling, screening, and decking are designed for clean, refined lines—long lengths, consistent vertical grain finish, minimal movement, and high visual cohesion across projects.

Nature's character, refined
Chapter 4: Versatility
Adaptable by nature

Abodo’s product range includes Vulcan Cladding, Screening, Panelling, Decking, and Sand Decking—each tailored for interior, exterior, and decorative uses. Every profile is crafted for stability, durability, and beauty, allowing designers to achieve natural warmth with lasting performance.

Because the same modified timber system underlies all these lines, there’s consistency in finish, weather performance, and grain appearance—making it possible to carry timber aesthetics from façade to decking to interior with harmony.

Chapter 5: Responsibility
Sustainability in every fiber

Abodo sources its wood from rapidly renewable, FSC-certified Radiata plantations in New Zealand; thermal modification is done without chemical preservatives, instead using heat & steam, and its Environmental Product Declaration shows Vulcan stores more carbon than is used in its manufacture.

The company also emphasises minimal transport emissions through local processing, low-VOC coatings (Protector), and long product life with less maintenance, reducing material waste over time.
